The regeneration of nerve is affected by many factors, especially by the local environment around the injured nerve, like the surrounding cells, extracellular matrix and soluble neurotrophic factors. Many research clarified that the expression of the neurotrophic factors and their receptors increased after nerve injury, and better recovery followed after the increase of these factors. Heparin-Binding Neuritepromoting Factor (HBNF) is a 18-kDa developmentally regulated protein, expression of it peaks during the perinatal and embryonic period in the mammalia animals, and it promotes neurite outgrowth, axonal guidance, angiogenesis and synaptogenesis through interaction with cell-surface heparan-sulphate proteoglycans, however, there is almost no expression of it in the adult period.ObjectTo determine whether there is the Heparin-Binding Neuritepromoting Factor (HBNF) expression on injured periphery neural system in rats and treating with HBNF can accelerate the recovery of injured neural system.MethodInduce sciatic injured SD rat model. Divided 48 female SD rats model into control group and HBNF-treated group, observe each group 6 rats per week in 4 weeks.ResultBy immunofluorescence, we found that there is a little HBNF expression in rats when dorsal root ganglion was severely injured. By sciatic function index (SFI) , the HBNF-treated group is higher than the control group (P<0.05) in the first two weeks; the Pinch test showed that in the 2ndand 3rd weeks the HBNF is higher than the control group (PO.05); By electrophysiology we found the recovery of muscular tension is better in HBNF-treated group; By histology, the distal nerve cross-sectional area , the proximal nerve cross-sectional area the myelinated diameter pass ratio and the myelinated axon diameter in HBNF-treated group is higher than the control group (P<0.05).Conclusion:The HBNF can enhance the recovery of the injured periphery neural system.
