Objectives: To compare the cariostatic effect between fluoride and Galla Chinesis through growth inhibiting experiment in vitro and in biofilm model.To evaluate the feasibility of application of Galla Chinesis in the daily practice.Method: Streptococcus mutans, Streptococcus sanguis, Streptococcus salivarius and Actinomyces naeslundii have been chosen as the experimental bacteria. Two experiments were carried out. It is evaluated that the inhibiting ability of two kinds of agents on the growth of the four experimental bacteria. Then,we construct the biofilm model,add two agents in the media,then exam the number of bacteria adhering on the HA disc,record the plankton pH in the flow cell,evaluate the demineralization and remineralization of the enamel disc.Result: Galla Chinesis can inhibit the growth of the four oral bacteria,prevent the adhesion of bacteria on the HA disc ,prevent demineralization and promote remineralization of enamel disc. Conclusion: Galla Chinesis is one kind of effective cariostatic natural agent.
