Objective To study the diagnosis and treatment of renal cell carcinoma. Methods 116 cases of renal cell carcinoma treated with surgery from Jan. 1995 to Dec. 2002 were reviewed. Results Radical nephrectomy was carried out for 113 cases. Simple nephrectomy for 1 case. Nephron-sparing surgery for 2 cases. The pathological results showed that 62 cases were clear cell carcinoma, 13 cases being granular cell carcinoma, 39 cases being complex of the above two varieties, 2 cases being papilla adenocarcinoma. 36 cases being T1N0M0, 1 case being T1N1M0, 14 cases being T2NoMo, 1 case being T2N1M0, 54 cases being T3N0M0, 2 case being T3N1M0, 2 cases being T3N2N0, 5 cases being T3N0M1, 1 case being T4N0M1. Among the 79 cases of RCC, the P53 positivity was demonstrated in 11 cases. Among the 50 cases of RCC, the Ki67 positivity was demonstrated in 46 cases. 66 cases have been followed up. The 1 year and 3 year survival rates were 95.4% and 89.3%.Conclutions Early diagnosis and prompt radical nephrectomy were the critical points for achieving long term survivals of patients with renal cell carcinoma. P53 and Ki67 might be applicable as tumor markers for the evaluation of malignant potential and prognosis of renal cell carcinoma.
