| Objective The aim of this study was to compare a new domestic model YDS-301 Perimeter with OCTOPUS 101 Perimeter and to verify the capacity of YDS-301 Perimeter.Methods All volunteers were selected from ophthalmic or neurologic department who may be have visual field defects. The perimetry were performed by both perimeters of YDS-301 and OCTOPUS 101 respectively in the same day. The perimetry was performed with the suprathreshold automatic quantitative program (85 eyes) and the threshold program of central~48 (30 eyes) of YDS-301 and the program of GITOP of OCTOPUS 101. The sensitivity and specificity of YDS-301 were confirmed on the basis of the results of OCTOPUS 101. The agreement of quantitative parameter of both perimeters was confirmed by statistical analysis packages.Results The sensitivity and specificity of YDS is 93.3% and 90.0% respectively. A statistically significant correlation (Pearson's r, p<0.01) was found between the "TOTAL" of YDS and the MD of OCTOPUS, and between the MS of both perimeters, and between the MD of both perimeters .Conclusions The new domestic model YDS-301 perimeter provide highsensitivity and specificity. It seems quite promising and can be used extensively. Although YDS as a light emitting diode perimeter has some inherent limitations, it has four merits: (1)It can be used by itself not only ,but also can be linked with computers; (2)All stimulus points can be marked by English letter and number which may be used to set up as the database of visual field; (3)It can used to as "static" automatically quantitative perimetry of peripheral visual field; (4)It can be used to measure the volume of full "island", the index of the central visual field TOTAL can reflect the number of ganglion cells and survival quality of person indoors, the solid angle of 30-90 degree peripheral visual field in 5 threshold levels can show the shape of vision island and reflect survival quality of person outdoors.
