| Objective To explore the therapeutic efficacy of salvia miltiorrhiza with promoting blood circulation and antioxidation effect on Henoch-Schonlein purpura(HSP) and Henoch-Schonlein purpura nephritis(HSPN). Methods 56 cases with HSP were randomly divided into two groups. The control group (n=25) was treated with dipyridamda and large dose vitamin C intravenous drip, while the treated group (n=31) treated with salvia miltiorrhiza powder injection 0.4 ~ 0.8g +5% glucose 100 ~ 200ml infused intravenously. Clinical, coagulative and antioxidative data were analyzed. Superoxide dismutase(SOD) and Malonic aldehyde(MDA) were detected by chemical colorimetric method. Results (1) The total effective rate in treated group and control group was 87.1%, 72% respectively, so that in comparison between two groups the difference was no statistic significance(P>0.05). (2) In both groups the level of fibrinogen(FIB)were depressed and the difference was significant in treated group (P<0.001) but no significant difference in control group(P>0.05). There were no difference of PLI, PT, INR , HCT , APTT between two groups(P > 0.05), only the difference of APTT extension time was significant in control group(P <0.05). FIB after therapy in HSP group was lower than untreatment (P<0.01), but no difference in HSPN group(P>0.05). (3) the level of SOD was obviously increased(P<0.001) and MDA was decreased after one curse cf treatment(P < 0.001). In treated group, the difference of serum SOD and MDA in the patient with HSPN weresignificant ( P < 0.01), while in control group only MDA was dropped (P<0.01). (4) Adverse event: Varied degree of adverse events showed in 7 cases of control group, 1 case showed headache in treated group (P<0.05). Conclusion Salvia miltiorrhiza is an effective method to treat those children with HSP or HSPN. It can improve imbalance situation in coagulation and antioxidation system, so that it may have great value in influencing the prognosis of HSP or HSPN patient.
