The occurrence and progress of cerebral ischemia reperfusion injury is related to the oxygen-derived free radical, calcium overload in cells ,the toxicity of excited amino acids and the inflammatory reaction in local brain tissues .In recent years apoptosis is found playing an important role in it .Atherosclerosis is an risk factor in cerebral vessel diseases .Activating blood circulation to dissipate blood stasis has its special superiority ,of which Buyanghuanwu Decoction ,proposed by Wang Qingren in a book named "Corrections on the Errors of Medical Works", is a represent prescription in treating apoplexia. So we feed high cholesterol foods to rats ,which may cause atheromatosis ,use reversible occlusion of the bilateral carotid arteries, make the cerebral ischemic reperfusion model ,Buyanghuanwu Decoction were given before and after operation .We detect the changes of biochemical indicators such as serum lipid, oxygen free radical, the pathologic of aorta and brain were also been observed, the expression of caspase-3 were observed by immunohistochemistry and neural cells apoptosis were surveyed by TUNEL. The results showed that atherosclerosis can deteriorate cerebral ischemia reperfusion injuries, Buyanghuanwu Decoction can play a role of antagonizing cerebral ischemia-reperfusion injury by regulate the level of blood lipid, resist oxidation, deregulate the expression of caspase-3 and inhibit neuron apoptosis .Thus we clarified the mechanism of Buyanghuanwu Decoction anticerebral ischemia on cellular and molecular level and give scientific theory and experimental evidence for clinical investigation.
