Objective:To evaluate the influence of atmospheric pressure and air temperature changes in SuZhou on the incidence of idiopathic spontaneous pneumothorax(ISP).Methods: From January 1,1998 to December 31,2000,129 consecutive ISP cases were selected.Patients were included after being in SuZhou at least 1 full day before contracting the ISP. The weather data was provided by SuZhou weather bureau. The clustering of ISP in there years was observed. The correlation between the differences of the month atmospheric pressure and air temperature average change values and the month mean cases was evaluated. Differences in atmospheric pressure and air temperature of three years and all seasons for the days of the ISP occurrence and the days previous to it were recorded to measure influences of atmospheric pressure and air temperature. Results: The clustering of ISP was in existence in April,May,November and December. The mean month average values of air temperature change is correlative to the mean cases of all months. The change of air temperature for the days with ISP and the days without ISP in winter was statically significant. There was no relationship between ISP and a rise or fall in atmospheric pressure (T test).ConcIusions:ISP occurs in clusters in SuZhou. The difference of the month air temperature average change values is correlated to the monthmean cases of ISP .In winter air temperature differences do seem to influence the occurrence of developing ISP.
