Purpose In the paper, 142 cases of skull tumor were studied in order to raise the understanding of skull tumors, thereby to improve the diagnosis, treatment and prognosis.Methods According to the morbidity, age and sex of patient, the site and histological feature of tumors, image findings, diagnosis and differential diagnosis and treatment, a retrospective analysis of 142 patients with skull tumor, who were treated at The General Hospital of Tianjin Medical University between 1980 and 2001, verified by postoperative pathological examination was studied.Results All of 142 skull tumors have 18 kinds of pathology types, the rate of average preoperative final diagnosis is 58.5%. Among of them osteoma, fibrous dysplasia of the skull, eosinophilic granuloma, metastatic tumors and epidermoid of the skull are five pathology types account for total 71.8%, the rate of average preoperative final diagnosis is 66.7%; And other 14 diseases account for total 28.2% that case count only, the rate of average preoperative final diagnosis is only 37.5%.Conclusion The incidence of skull tumors is low, but denomination of skull diseases is large and its manifestation is almost similar to each other. In the clinical it is easy to misdiagnose so influencing treatment. Skull tumors have regularity that can be followed in illness onset age, sex, the site and histological feature of tumor, image finding, diagnosis and differential diagnosis, treatment, prognosis, etc. Analysis and understanding of these diseases could raise accurate rate of diagnosis, take pertinence treat and improve its prognosis.
