Heparanase is a mammalian cell endoglucuronidase capable of specifically degrading heparan sulfate which incorporated into the cell memmbrane and the extracellular matrix. Some studies have shown that heparanase exists in platelets, placenta, HCC, melanoma, sqaumous carcinoma of uterine cervix , ovary adenocarcinoma, carcinoma of colon et al, its activity has been shown to be related to metastatic potential and angiogenesis of tumor cells and may be involved in inflammation process. Scientists have cloned heparanase gene from placenta in 1999. In this study, human heparanase cDNA gene is cloned from HCC firstly in our country using genetic engineering method , It has also been proved that heparanase highly express in HCC and give foundation for the further investgation.
