Objective: the characteristics of clinical manifestations, endocrine examinations and imaging findings in pituitary adenomas (PA) was analyzed, and then PA was classified based on immunohistochemistry results in order to choose the best therapeutic methods and improve the effects. Methods: the clinical manifestations, imaging findings, endocrine examinations, immunohistochemistry results, different therapeutic methods and effects in 92 patients with PA were retrospectively analyzed. Results: PA could be diagnosed, functionally classified, and provided the best therapeutic methods based on clinical manifestations, imaging findings, physical and endocrine examinations. 81 patients were treated by operation, 11 patients by Y -knife alone. Among 81 patients, 17 were treated by y -knife as supplementary treatment. No patients died. The prognosis was satisfactory. Conclusion: MRI and hormone examinations are the important methods of improving early diagnosis of PA. Transsphenoidal approach has still been a classical operation. Y -knife is an effective treatment with few complications, which can be used alone or used as supplement. Pituitary apoplexy which is a serious and dangerous clinical syndromes, can be treated by hormone substitute and emergency operations, and then resulted in improving the therapeutic efficiency, reducing death rate and the complications. Invading PA needs to routinely treat by radiotherapy as supplement because of postoperative residual and recurrence.
