| Objective To discuss the value of MRI in diagnosing and evaluating the therapeutic effect of acute leukemia by observing the MRI findings of bone marrow, quantifying bone marrow signal intensity (SI) value on T,WI. Materials and Methods MRI scanning ,SI value measuring were performed in study group(30 initial acute leukemia patients manifested by marrow puncturing , including ALL 12 cases and AML 18 cases), control group(30 healthy volunteers with same sex and age) and remission group(12 cases) . Results Initial acute leukemia: (1) The signal on ^WI appeared to be homogeneous diffuse hypointense or nodulous diffuse hypointense at lumbosacral vertebrae and inhomogeneous hypointense at iliac bone and femur; (2) The signal on fat suppression T2WI appeared to be homogeneous diffuse hyperintense or nodulous diffuse hyperintense at iliac bone and femur . Remission leukemia: (3) The signal on T,WI hoisted and on fat suppression T2WI declined. At the same time one can observe MRI appearance of complication. Quantifying SI value on T,WI at lumbosacral vertebrae: (4) Significant difference of bone marrow SI value existed between normal control group and initial leukemia group (P<0.001); (5) Significant difference of bone marrow SI value existed between study group before treatment and group after treatment (P<0.001), and after treatment the SI value was evidently increased;(6) No significant difference of bone marrow SI value could be seen between ALL and AML (P>0.05).(7)Observing the infiltrating areas of ALL and AML at iliac bone and femur ,the area of ALL was larger than AML,and the chance" of involving femoral epiphysis , greater trochanter bone marrow in AML was smaller than ALL. Significantdifference of infiltrating area could be seen between ALL and AML (P<0.05). Conclusion As a non-invasive technique for acute leukemia, MRI is useful in estimating the condition of the disease and in evaluating the therapeutic effect by observing the MRI findings of bone marrow and quantifying bone marrow signal intensity (SI) value on T1WI. At the same time, MRI can show bone marrow distributing characteristics of. various acute leukemia and provide imaging diagnosing thereunder for acute leukemia. |
