Psoriasis is a common, recurrent, chronic, inflammatory disease of the skin. Its cause is still unknown.Traditional Chinese Medicine can be used properly to improve the curative effect, reduce the toxic side effect of other medicine. In order to investigate futher the pathogenesis and clinical treatment of psoriasis, the author used the methods of ELISA and MTT respectively, to measure the plasma levels of IFN-y > IL-18 in patients with psorisis and in normal controls; to observe not only the effect of the superantigen-SEB on the peripheral blood lymphocytes in patients with psoriasis and in normal controls, but also the effect of SEB on CoLo-16.The result is as following:1 -. The plasma level of IFN-y was significantly higher in patients with pustular psoriasis ^ erythrodermic psoriasis or psoriasis vulgaris than that in normal controls respectively. And The plasma level of IFN-y was significantly higher in patients with pustular psoriasis than that in patients with erythrodermic psoriasis or psoriasis vulgaris respectively.2^ The plasma level of IFN-y was significantly higher in patients with psoriasis vulgaris than that in normal controls. The plasma level of IL-18 was slightly higher in patients with psoriasis vulgaris than that in normal controls, but the difference was not significant at the 0.05 level. And a significant correlation was not found between the plasma levels of IFN-y and IL-18.3. Withou stimulus peripheral blood lymphocyte secreted some IFN-y and little IL-18. SEB stimulated peripheral blood lymphocyte to proliferate, apoptosis and secrete IFN-y .. IL-18. The proliferative and apoptosis response of the peripheral blood lymphocyte to SEB was enhanced in patients with psoriasis vulgaris than that in normal controls. And SEB stimulated the peripheral blood lymphocyte to secrete more IFN-y hi patients with psoriasis vulgaris than that hi normal controls. The difference was significant at the 0.01 level. The secreting level of IL-18 by the peripheral blood lymphocyte stimulated by SEB was higher in patients with psoriasis vulgaris than in normal controls, but the difference was not significant at the 0.05 level. And a significant correlation was not found between the secreting levels of IFN-y and IL-18 by peripheral blood lymphocyte stimulated by SEB.4. SEB had no effect on the proliferation and apoptosis of CoLo-16.5. The proliferative and apoptosis response of peripheral blood lymphocyte to aloe was reduced significangly.6. The proliferative response of CoLo-16 to aloe was reduced significantly. And the apoptosis response of CoLo-16 to aloe was enhanced significantly.Conclusion:1. IFN-y may play an important role in the pathogenesis of psoriasis.2. IL-18 might not play an important role in the pathogenesis of psoriasis and the induction of the plasma level of IFN-y. But it still needs to prove.3. It is one of the effective pathogenesis of psoriasis that SEB activates T cell.4. There may be lymphocyte specific to SEB in patients with psoriasis.5% SEB may stimulate ThI cell in patients with psoriasis to secrete IFN-y > IL-18, and psoriasis is an immunological disease mediated by Thl cell.6. IFN-y may play an important role in the pathogenesis ofSEB-mediated psoriasis.7. IL-18 might not play an important role in the induction of IFN-y by peripheral blood lymphocyte stimulated by SEB.8 . SEB stimulated peripheral blood lymphocyte to apoptosis. Maybe it is to balance T cell activation versus death.9. SEB can not induce the proliferation and apoptosis of CoLo-16 directly.10. Aloe inhibits the proliferation and apoptosis of peripheral blood lymphocyte in patients with psoriasis. Aloe inhibits the proliferation and increases the apoptosis of CoLo-16. Its clinical treatment may be related to the curative mechanism.
