Aim: To explore the relationship among NOS% NO and ischemic brain injury. Methods: Collagenase and heparin induced intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH) rats were used. NOS and NO content in serum and brain tissue in different periods of ICH were assayed by spectrometry. The histopathologic changes of brain tissue were observed with light microscope. Results:The content of NOS> NO in serum and hippocampus increased on the second day after ICH, and increased to the fifth day, compared with the control group there were statistical difference the peak of NOS -, NO on the third day ,then decreased to normal line on the seventh day. But it was different in cortex that NOS and NO increased to the peak on the second day ,and then decreased to normal line on the fifth day after ICH. There are ischemic brain injury such as neurons swell ? degeneration and necrosis in cortex and hippocampus after ICH. The degree of brain injury was same as the changes of NOS N NO content in different periods of ICH. Conclusion: NOS> NO probably involved in ischemic brain injury of ICH, an excess of NO do damage to brain tissue.
