Internet is a revolution in human history. It brings great changes to our lives, from the economy, politics, culture to education and health care. According to the last survey of CNNIC(China Internet Network Information Center) in July 2001, there are about 26,500,000 people online, 4,540,000 of them surfing the internet by leased line, and 17,930,000 by dialing the telephone. Faced with the unavoidable impact, accompanied by the challenges and opportunities, hospitals are pushed to the edge of "live or die".Undoubtedly, the internet is becoming increasingly important in health care fields. Interactive online information over the World Wide Web is a more efficient alternative to traditional modes of medical service. "Hospital" is any institution, place, building or agency, devoted primarily to the maintenance and operation of facilities for the diagnosis, treatment or care of patients admitted for overnight stay or longer in order to obtain medical care. In the era of information, as the most common application for a hospital on the Internet, website is significant to a hospital's development. It can be an efficient tool for the communication between medical staff and patients, a way to supply higher quality of service, and at the same time expand hospitals' service boundary at low cost. We can expect that a hospital's web site will be an important indicator of its over-all strength as well as human resources, equipments, medical leveK teaching and research.Three methods have been used in this paper. Firstly, an affiliated hospital of the Fourth Military Medical University, as the pretendedobject of large-scale hospitals in China, is investigated in detail. Secondly, twenty world-renowned hospital's websites and ten Chinese hospitals' websites are browsed and analyzed. The draft of design is sketched. Thirdly, more than 20 Chinese specialists in clinic fields > hospital administration fields and network fields are consulted.From above works, a wholly website-building solution for large-scale hospitals in China is brought out.
