BFGF is a polypetide with potent multi-potential trophic effects on neuron cells, including neurons, glia, and endothelial cells. It promotes the differentiation and proliferation a variety of brain neurons particularlly. Perinatal asphyxia usually causes with neuron damage and hypoxic ischemic brain damage (HIBD). Our goal is to illustrate if bFGF prevent the neuron damage during or after fetal distress. Our study was consisted of 2 parts. Part 1 .To investigate if bFGF could penetrate placental barrier to act as a neurotrophic factor. 16 day pregnant rats were selected, Distribution of bFGF in different organs was evaluated by the measurement of radioactivity of 125I,after peritoneal injection of 125I labeled bFGF. Our date showed: 1,125I-bFGF has been found in fetal brain, heart, lung and spleen, etc. 2, Fetal brain has the least concentration of bFGF among organs tested, 3, In the safe range, high dose bFGF injection got higher distribution of bFGF in fetal brain. Part 2.To investigate if bFGF prevent brain damage in hypoxic condition. Thirty-two fetal rats of 15 or 16-day gestational age were divided random into four groups: Group A, normal control; Group B, 5 distressed subject; GrouP C, distressed and bFGF treatment; GrouP D,diStressed + preventiOn animal mode was Inade by uteri diStress, bFGF was...given via peritoneal injection and all amInals were sacrificed fOr evaluationof proliferated neurons in fetal rat brain. The data shOwed theproliferated neurons in fetal rat Brains are: 3.42l1.85/hP; l0.66l3.57/hP;,l6.95t3.57 33.g/ lP; 22 8As.gto; i n g' B. C. D resPectively BetweengrouP B and A, P<0.0l, between grouP C and B, grouP D and B, P<0.0l.Statistical anaysis revealed tha exogenous bFGF SUPPlementation topregat fats, before fetal diStress or at the thae of distress, can protectbrain cells against hyPoxia and sthelate neurons proliferation. It plays apivotal role in the dmerentiation and proliferation ofdamaed neurons. In suInInny BFGF as a poly-petide with potent multi-potentinltrophic effects on nervus systetn, could through placental barrier intodamaged brain and promote the differentiation and proliferation of a widevariety of brain neurons.
