Objectives: Observation the effects of β-Carotene on growth of the three tumor cells and their HCGβexcretion was carried out, further determination HCGβexcretion in six tumor cells. It may offer some important information concerning the biological significance and effected factors of HCGβexcretion in malignant cells. Methods: Effects of β-Carotene on tumor cells growth such as HeLa,Q3, SPC-A-1 and HCGβexcretion of HeLa,Q3,T24, SPC-A-1 ,Bcap-37 and HO-8910 were studied with the technique of cell culture in vitro and with the methods of SDS-PAGE and ELISA.BRL was also treated as normal control cell. There are two parts in the test:1. Effects of β-Carotene on both the three tumor cells growth at 24h and their HCGβexcretion at 96h were observed with dose of 10-4mol/L,10-5mol/L,10-6mol/L.2.Extracelluar and intracelluar HCGβexcretion of the above six tumor cells was detected at 96h. A blank control was arranged in each group , dissolvent control being DMSO. The survival rate, the protein content and the HCGβlevels of cultured cells were observed. Results: 1.There was a significant inhibition of β-Carotene on growth of the three tumor cells and HCGβexcretion by each dose group, the inhibited effects on Q3 and SPC-A-1 are stronger than those of HeLa , BRL. With the increasing dose, the inhibited effects were obviously enhanced. 2. Different extracelluar amount of HCGβexcretion was found in the six tumor cells, and HCGβexcretion of five among them was dramatically higher than BRL. However negative results were observed in cell lysis and normal control cell. Conclusions: 1.The inhibited effects of β-Carotene on both tumor cells growth and HCGβexcretion may provide a valuable reference for prevention and treatment of human malignances.2. HCGβcan be processed and excreted by malignant tumor cells, excreted levels were depended on different cells of types and origins.3.HCGβdetermination could be useful as a tumor marker, for identifying some human malignant tumors.
