Study About Influencing Factor Of ¹⁵³Sm-EDTMMP As A Palliative Treatment For Painful Skeletal Metastases

Purpose: Sm-153-ethylene diamine tetramethylenephosphonate (～(153)Sm -EDTMP) is effective in the palliationof painful bone metastases, but the response to treatmentis different among individual case. Pain relief is observedin 60-93% of pains treated with ～(153)sm-EDTMP.To seek forcorrelative factors influencing the efficacy of ～(153)Sm -EDTMPtreatment, hope to direct the treatment with ～(153)sm-EDTMP.Materials and methods: Sixty and six patients with painfulbone metastases from various primaries were treated with ～(153)Sm -EDTMP. The effects were analysed and proof-testedaccording to the grouping separately by kinds of primariescancer, prime site of pain, pain score, radioactivity uptakeratio between skeletal metastases and normalosscature(T/NT), sum of skeletal metastases, radioactivecount of skeletal metastases,and area of skeletalmetastases. Multifactorial regression analysis wasperformed over the effect and the factors. The sex, ageand theraphy dose were also included into the analysis.Results: 65.15% of patients treated with ～(153)Sm -EDTMP hada positive response. The response in the group of prostateand breast cancer was significant1y better than in the groupof 1ung cancer. The response in patients with lumbago wassignificant1y better than patients with thigh pain. The.response in patients with T/NT=1. 21--2. 00 was a1sosignificant1y better than patients with T/NT=1. 00--1. 20. Themu1tifactoria1 regression ana1ysis showed that the site ofpain, the primaries and radioactive uptake of ske1eta1metastases were significant factors influencing theefficacy, and the efficacy was not inf1uenced by theraphydose, sex, age, sum of ske1eta1 metastases, and pain score.Conc1uS1oDs: The pa11iative treatment with l53 Sm --EDTMP hada better effect in the patients with prostate and breastcancer, 1umbago or 1umbago with pain in other site, andT/NT=1. 21--1. 20. The patients are suited for the pa11iativetreatment with l53 Sm --EDTMP. But the patients with 1ungcancer and thigh pain and T/NT=1. 0--1. 2 wou1d probab1y have1ess benefit from the pa11 iat ive treatment with l53 Sm --EDTMP.
