In the study, the effect of extract Ginkgo biloba (EGB) on immune functions was investigated. Three groups Wistar rats were given intragastrically (ig) distillated water (control group), wine (wine group), wine+EGB (wine+EGB group) respectively for 2 weeks. The systemic and respiratory tract immune functions were detected at same time. The results show that: The systemic and respiratory tract immunodepressions were induced by wine. There were atrophy , histological change in thymus and spleen. The indexes of thymus and spleen were decreased than that of control group. The phagocytosis of PMiN, the percentage of peripheral T lymphocyte, the activity of T lymphocyte and the serum antibody were declined than that of control group. In respiratory tract, the phagocysis of Am and the percentage of T lymphocyte in BALF were reduced. However, in wine+EGB group, EGB could reverse all above parameters. It is indicated: The systemic and respiratory tract immune functions were suppressed by excessive wine; Extracts Ginkgo biloba could protect immune functions significantly, which was relate closely to its antioxidant and PAF antagonist.
