Understanding of variation feature of plant's traits, effective indices were selected accord to the indices'sensitivity and variation trend to establish evaluation system of saline-alkali tolerance of Ulmus pumila L. germplasm. The variation and saline-alkali tolerance and mechanism of Ulmus pumila L. were researched based on the evaluation system. the Ulmus pumila L. germplasm that of tolerant to saline-alkali were selected and cultivated. The 8 ploted families of three-months growing and 9 ploted families of one-year growing Ulmus pumila L. were treated by Na2CO3 and NaHCO3 mixtures respectively, and the concentrations (saline-alkali content in soil) were increased gradually. the agricultural and physiological indices were measured under every concentrations. the serious suffer rate, total suffer rate, death rate,Ec,Chla,Wc and Pn,Cond,Tr,Fv/Fm,Fv/Fo,Ec. Chla,Chlb were assessed to be effective-evaluating indices for three-months growing seedling and one-year growing seedling respectively. The indices correlation analysis showed that most of indices were correlative significantly at 0.05 or 0.01 level, this result indicated that integrated analysis was necessary. for three-months growing seedling, the families coded 2,7 were assessed to be tolerant to saline-alkali based on the single and integrated effective indices analysis. for one-year growing seedling, the families coded 57,216,8033 and 212,225 were assessed to be tolerant and sensitive to saline-alkali respectively based on the single effective indices of Ec,Pn,Fv/Fm,Fv/Fo and integrated effective indices analysis, other genealogies were not obvious to be sensitive or tolerant to saline-alkali.For most one-year growing families, there was a obvious accretion at the concentration of 0.6% on effective evaluating indices. This phenomenon indicated that Ulmus pumila L. germplasm could be tolerant to saline-alkali concentration of 0.6% at certain degree. but for three-months growing families, the effective indices value were increased or declined straightly while the saline-alkali concentrations got increased.
