Mastitis is one of the largest production concerns and a major cause of economic losses in the dairy industry worldwide. The occurrence of bovine mastitis has serious consequences for public health. Mastitis reduces milk yield and quality when pathogenic micro-organisms enter the udder and cause an inflammation of the secretory tissue. Moreover mastitis also made dairy cows cull too early. All of these necessitates the use of antibiotic therapy. So,it's urgent to develop new methods or strategies to prevent and control the disease better.Mastitis is caused by a variety of infectious agents and Streptococcus is a major bacterial pathogen. Streptococcus isolated from mastitis case mainly include Streptococcus agalactiae, Streptococcus dysgalactiae, Streptococcus uberis , Streptococcus pyogenes and Streptococcus zooepidemicus and so on. There is a very wide variation in the predominant mastitis pathogen from region to region. In order to investigate the incidence of Huhhot region, 245 quarter milk samples were collected from 2 farms. Fifty five strains Streptococcus were identified by using of germiculture, morphology and biochemical test Of the total of isolation, Streptococcus agalactiae(14strains),Streptococcus dysgalactiae(29strains)and Streptococcus uberis(12strains)。Drug sensitivity test, animal pathogenicity test and molecular epidemiology were carried out on the above isolation strains. The results showed Streptococcus dysgalactiae predominate among clinical isolates caused bovine mastitis in Huhhot, inner Mongolia, China. Drug sensitivity test showed these isolation strains sensitive to Penicillins and Aminoglycosides and animal pathogenicity test indicated lethality of mice caused by these streptococcus achieved 80% over. This study will be helpful to avoid the selection of ineffective antibiotic and make control and prevention measures in the treatment of the infected bovines of Huhhot area.
