As a member of the Aquifoliaceae family, Ilex×altaclerensis'Belgica Aurea'is evergreen, and is one of the excellent colored-leaf species in landscaping use. This research report was mainly to introduce this new cultivar, test its adaptability. And based on which, the rapid propagation techniques such as softwood cutting, grafting, tissue culture of Ilex×altaclerensis'Belgica Aurea'were carried out. The results showed that,1.Study of adaptabilityThe morphological character, phenological period, propagation character, resistence, diseases and pests of Ilex×altaclerensis'Belgica Aurea'were observed during years of cultivation. According to that, this cultivar had compact plant type, plentiful colour, long fruiting peirod, strong adaptability, and few diseases or pests. It was proved to be an outstanding cultivar.2. Study of grafting propagationThe effect of different grafting methods, stocks, the position of scions, and the diameter of stocks and scions on Ilex×altaclerensis'Belgica Aurea''s survival ratio and growth of new sprouts were studied. It indicated that, taking the middle and base sections of annual shoots as scions, the survival ratio could be up to 90%by cutting grafting or belly grafting. The survival ratio was preferable with the stocks of Ilex cornuta and Ilex Integra, between which the Ilex cornuta showed better. Diameter of scions and stocks influenced the germination and shoots growth after suvival of scions.3. Study of softwood cuttingThe effect of different medium of softwood cutting, time of softwood cutting, types and concentrations of growth regulators, adding of bioactive compound on Ilex×altaclerensis'Belgica Aurea''s survival ratio and growth of new sprouts were compared during the experiment. It was obvious that, the best time for softwood cutting was in eary March or early September. When the ratio of peat, vermiculite, perlite in the medium was 3:5:2 or 4:2:4, the survival ratio was better. And rooting ratio was boosted under treatments of NAA, IAA, IBA and GGR6, during which the NAA concentration of 2000 mg/L had the most distinct effect. In addition, it increased the rooting ratio greatly to 72% by adding bioactive compound DMSO to the growth regulators.4. Study of tissue cultureFor the tissue culture experiment, the stem segment and apex of Ilex×altaclerensis'Belgica Aurea'were taken as explants, and ZT, NAA, IBA were added into the medium. Adventitious buds were easily formed with the explant of stem segment. The best medium for multiplication was WPM+1.0 mg/L NAA, whose multiplication ratio reached 1.82 to 2.58. The medium of WPM without plant hormone made the stem diameter achieved to 0.30 cm. While the rooting rato behaved the best using the explant of lateral bud with stem segment, and in the medium composed of vermiculite+1/2 WPM+0.05mg/L NAA, which was 42.9%.
