During Chinese agricultural structural adjustment, the development of feed crop is one of the directions in which popularization first is clover. Clover industry should have more suitable species as guarantee. Alfalfa, which is marked with "the king of grazing", is one of the most important pea family grasses in Chinese. It has many merits such as suitability, products, good quality, stress resistance, growth speed, etc. It could also be used for environmental greening and food industry, especially the leaf protein of alfalfa is a good material for medical and health foodstuff. Low temperature is one of the mostly serious elements to limit alfalfa industrial development and it is very easily happened about freezing injury and dying phenomenon in northern cold areas. Therefore it is urgently need to breed alfalfa species with capability of cold resistance. Cold resistance was one kind of genetic characters to adapt low temperature during a long period, cold resistant gene only expressed under conditions such as low temperature, short duration of sunshine, water stress and make the plants develop the capability of cold resistance.The test of ten species of Alfalfa was conducted in order to study adaptability and weeds controling of Alfalfa in Qianguo, Jilin in 2008~2009. Ten species of leguminous grasses, Medicago varia cv. Longmu 801,Medicago varia cv. Gongnong No.2,Medicago sativa cv. Longmu 806, the results showed that their production performance and nutritive value were high. Medicago sativa cv. Algonquin,Medicago sativa cv. Alfaking,Medicago sativa cv. Express were low.Medicago sativa cv. Gongnong No.3,Medicago sativa cv. Gannong No.3,Medicago sativa cv.Zhonglan No.1,Medicago sativa cv.Longmu 803 were lower.Experiments with 4 kinds of processing techniques were applied in order to efficiently increasing the Alfalfa quality. The results showed that the ensiling was the effective processing technique to nutritive value, the sheaves, the grass meal, the cubed forage of Medicago sativa did not affected to nutritive value, but they were beneficial to reserved and transport. So the ensiling and the sheaves of Medicago sativa were cheaply processing techniques, the grass meal and the cubed forage of Medicago sativa were expensively processing techniques.
