Soil water was the main biological factor limiting crop production and distribution in dry area. The study for the effects of water stress on dry matter accumulation and partitioning and characteristic of grain filling of crop, it was essential to set up water-saving and high yield technology system. The pot experiment which combined with artificial water control was carried to study the effects of water stress on dry matter accumulation and partitioning and characteristic of grain filling of pea under different stress stages, different stress severity and different stress duration. The main results were as follows:1. The effect on dry matter accumulation and partitioning of pea was different under different stress stages, different stress severity and different stress duration. The degree of inhibition for leaf and stem and pod was increased with the increasing of water stress severity and the elongation of duration, but it increased on growth of root. After rewatering, the different degree of compensation effect was appeared on growth inhibition of leaf and stem and pod. Different stages had different effects on dry matter accumulation and partitioning of pea. After rewatering, for the mild degree and short duration treatment stress in seedling stage, the dry matter accumulation and partitioning of pea showed enough-compensation. The other stress treatments showed compensation too, but they didn't approach those of CK.2. The dynamics of grain dry matter accumulation appeared a"S-like"curve under different water stress condition, which is in a tendency of"slow-fast-slow". The correlation coefficient of each cubic fitting equation was all above 0.9, which showed that Logistic equation could perfectly describe the process of pea grain dry matter accumulation. Different stage, degree and duration of water stress affected filling parameters of pea to various extents. Serious stress for long time took the greatest influence on filling characteristic, followed by the slight stress for long time. The influence of serious and slight stress for short time was least unnoticeable. 3. The effect on pea yield and some pertinent yield's characters was also different under different stress stages, different stress severity and different stress duration. The biotic yield and economic yield exceeded those of CK under mild severity and short duration treatment in seedling stage. The other stress treatments showed different degree of compensation too, but they didn't approached to those of CK. Compared to different stages, it had best compensation effect in seedling stage, next was filling stage ,the last was flowering stage. And compensation effect under mild degree and short duration treatment was better than those of severe degree and long duration.
