Abstract/Summary:
This experiment was carried out at northern region of China by adding different additives to alfalfa hay at high moisture to test and analysis conventional nutrients- content of alfalfa after 60 days storage, and then to screen the proper formula according to the research result. The major researches are:1. According to Orthogonal Test Design L16 (45) experimental design with five factors and four levels, the experiment was conducted to investigate the compound additive prescriptions of five kinds of additives and their adding levels on the quality of alfalfa hay. After analyzing chemical composition of alfalfa hay which had stored for 60 days with different compound additive prescriptions at high moisture, the best compound additive prescription was selected. 2. Further study was conducted to investigate treatments of the best compound additive which was obtained with Orthogonal Test Design, the similar additive of SG (water content was from 27% to 28%), high moisture hay with no additive (from 27% to 28%, CKH) and low moisture hay (17%, CKL) on the tendency of changes of temperature, water content, nutrient contents in hay during preservation. At the same time, the difference of nutritional quality between alfalfa hay treated with high moisture and low moisture was also analyzed and compared after preservation. 3. Taking SG, CKH and CKL as the comparisons, the digestive rates of the CP, NDF, ADF and DM of hay which was treated with additives were studied by using in vitro method to contrast the difference of digestive rates of high moisture and low moisture hay after stored for 60 days. The results are shown as follows:1. Alfalfa hay loss lots of nutrition during the processes of drying and baling, and ultimately the quality of alfalfa hay decreased. The mean reason is that leaf of legume forage contains high nutrition, but they are go off easily when baled at low moisture, because leaves are drying faster than caudices and fell into pieces easily. Baled at high moisture can reduce the leaf loss in the mechanical operation process. But alfalfa hay baled at high moisture without any treatment is easily going moldy. And the nutrition won't be higher than that of low moisture because of hot and microorganism. Additives added to alfalfa hay at high moisture for storing is an effective way for solving several problems which are large nutritive losses of hay during baling at low moisture, storing troubles in rain and humid places.2. The best compound additive prescription obtained by the way of Orthogonal Test Design was A3B2C3D4E3. It means add NaSO4 0.52g, Na2SO3 0.12g, K2SO4 0.09g, Potassium Sorbet 0.5g and Sodium diaceate 1.75g to 1 kg of alfalfa hay. The component proportion of eximious formula is NaSO4 17.94%, Na2SO3 4.14%, K2SO4 0.31%, Potassium Sorbet 17.25% and Sodium diaceate 60.37%.3. To improve the quality of alfalfa hay after 60 days preservation, the main effect of CA is to reduce the water content rapidly after baled and depleting oxygen of alfalfa hay. It's not only throwing the microbial living and reproducing circumstance into confusion, but also reducing the loss of respiration. CA increased the amount of WSC, DM and CP, and reduced the amount of NPN, half- fibrin and fibrin. Especially in the later preservation the decomposition rate of WSC and CP obviously lower than other treatment.4. Alfalfa hay of low moisture which kept 0 day, the in vitro digestion rate of DM and CP is very low; nevertheless, the NDF and ADF in vitro digestion rate is higher than other treatments. In the process of preservation nutrients of low moisture changes a little and after preservation the in vitro digestion rate change is not obvious. The DM and CP in vitro digestion rate of high moisture alfalfa hay which kept 0 day is higher than that of low moisture, but significantly reduced after 60 day's preservation. The comparison of CKH and alfalfa hay which treated with additives illuminated that additives can effectively improve nutrients in vitro digestion rate of the high moisture hay. The effect of compound additives CA is better than SG.
