The geographical distribution, characteristics of community, growth regularity, population structure, crown structure and biomass of Ampelocalamus luodianensis were studied in this study. The collected data were analyzed on the basis of population theory and method in order to reveal population characteristics preliminarily. It not only provides a data support for resource introduction and protection, but also provides a theoretical basis and information for production development and using for Ampelocalamus luodianensis. The main results were as follows:1. The distribution of Ampelocalamus luodianensis population is located in 24°58′-26°03′N, 105°25′-107°03′E. It mainly distributed in Luodian County, Changshun County, Ziyun Miao Nationality and Buyi Nationality autonomic county and Wangmo County. The vertical distribution height of Ampelocalamus luodianensis population is between 650m to 1250m. Temperature and moisture were the main factors for the Ampelocalamus luodianensis distribution. The high requirement of Soil Nutrient Content for the growth of Ampelocalamus luodianensis may be the main reason for Ampelocalamus luodianensis being endangered.2. Few arbor species were growing in Ampelocalamus luodianensis community; Ampelocalamus luodianensis population is the primary dominant species in the shrub layer. In addition, there are lots of young trees in shrub layer. It indicates the differentiation of arbor layer and shrub layer in Ampelocalamus luodianensis community and the adverse effect to Ampelocalamus luodianensis population.3. Shoot emergence of Ampelocalamus luodianensis started in middle August and the shooting peak was reaching in the early September. The duration of Shoot emergence is about 35days.The height growths of shoots were lasted for about 90 days. The average height of shoots was 714.5cm and the growth process of shoots was accord with the equation of Logistic curve.4. The population of Ampelocalamus luodianensis was in growth states and there was the phenomenon of on and off-year. Most diameters of individuals were between 0.4cm and 0.7cm and the heights of individuals were mainly from 4m to 6m. There was positive relativity between the number and the average diameter of plants in clusters.5.The standing crop of Ampelocalamus luodianensis population was 15707kg/hm2,with aboveground biomass and underground biomass accounted for 82.9% and 17.1% respectively. The order of biomass to different parts was: Culm>Branch> Leaves> Root> Stump. Average quantity, average length and average width of burl showed that: 1st lateral Branch>2nd lateral Branch>3rd lateral Branch.
