A3×3(L-camitine×betaine)mulitiple-factor experiment has been conducted to explore the effects of the dietary supplementation with L-carnitine and betaine on growth performance, carcass characteristics and meat quality, serum biochemistry indices of finishing pigs.81 finishing pigs(Duroc×Landrace×Yorkshire) with average weight of 90kg were randomly divided into 9 groups, each treatment including 3 replicates(3 pigs per replicate),L-carnitine supplement amounts were 0,50,100 mg/kg,betaine supplement were 0,1000,1500 mg/kg.The results are showed as follows:1,L-carnitine and betaine supplementation had significant effects on average daily gain and average daily feed intake(P<0.05).But L-carnitine and betaine had no interaction effects on growth performance(P>0.05).2,L-carnitine supplementation had significant effects on fatback thickness and longissimus dorsi area(P<0.05).Betaine supplementation had significant effect on fatback thickness(P<0.05).The interaction of L-camitine and betaine had no significant effects on carcass characteristics(P>0.05).3,L-camitine had significant effects on marbling score and muscle protein content (P<0.05),Betaine had significant effects on meat color score and total muscle pigment (P<0.05),L-carnitine and betaine had no significant effects on pH value of muscle, drop loss, cooking loss, shear force(P>0.05).But L-camitine and betaine had no interaction effects on meat quality(P>0.05).4,L-carnitine supplementation increased content of liver protein and depressed crude fat significantly(P<0.05),But L-carnitine and betaine had no interaction effects on liver quality (P>0.05).5,L-camitine supplementation depressed activities of glutamic-pyruvic transaminase and glutamic-oxalacetic transaminase, serum urea nitrogen, triglyceride significantly, total cholesterol significantly(P<0.05),increased serum total protein and high density lipoprotein significantly(P<0.05),betaine had significant effects on serum urea nitrogen(P<0.01),and L-carnitine and betaine had interaction effects on triglyceride significantly(P<0.05).In conclusion,L-camitine and betaine supplementation can increase the growth performance, carcass characteristics and meat quality, fat metabolism. And the optimum supplement level is L-camitine 100mg/kg and betaine 1500mg/kg.
