Studies On Cultivation Of Potted Herb Peony

As one of traditional flowers of China,herb peony(Paeonia lactiflora Pall.) have broad market prospect.This paper studies the effects of cultivation ways on growth and blooming of Paeonia lactiflora,and select suitable growing media and cultivars for potted culture,and reserch the chilling quantity that breaks dormancy and some critical potted cultivation techniques for herb peony,which include different nutrient solution,cultivation environment,lateral buds extraction and overwintering ways.The purpurse is to provide reference foundation for Paeonia lactiflora potted cultivation.The results were as follows:1 The effects of cultivation ways on growth and blooming of Paeonia lactiflora was significant difference.The growth and blooming of potted herb peony with soil was poorer than that growing in the field.2 The turf+vermiculite+perlite=3:1:1 was recommended as the potted herb peony growing media.3 The effects of different nutrient solution used in the experiment on plant height and crown width was not significant difference,but was significant difference on blooming,especially on plant blooming rate.The plants used compound fertilizer grew and bloomed best.The variation tendency of N,P,K in leaf of potted herb peony was same:increased from period of germination to stem growth,decreased after that.The whole dynamic variation of available nitrogen and phosphorus in growing media was also same,but the content of available potassium was stable all the way.Potted herb peony absorbed and consumed more N than P and K in the growth and blooming period.It is the critical period of fertilization from germination to stem growth for potted herb peony.4 The effects of cultivation environment on plant height and crown width was not significant difference,but was significant difference on flowers quantity and blooming rate.All cultivars grew and bloomed better in the open land than in greenhouse.Temperature and humidity were two important factors effecting growing and blooming of potted herb peony in the open land and greenhouse.5 The lateral buds extraction did not effect the plant height and crown width of potted herb peony significantly,and did not effect flower diameter and blooming rate significantly too.The plants which removed lateral buds showed lagre flowers quantity and long population florescence.It should retain lateral buds in potted herb peony production.6 The potted herb peony can overwinter in the open land without covering anything,but put potted herb peony in ditch and covered with plastic film and woven straw were more favorable to the growth and blooming in coming year.7 It was founded that excess chilling hours would decrease bud formation rate and blooming rate of potted herb peony by primary study.Using GA₃ can make potted herb peony germinate earlier, promote the plant bud develop and height grow,improve bud formation rate and bolooming rate.But after plants got enough chilling hours,using GA₃ was harmful to plant growth and blooming.823 hours chilling quantity had broken the dormancy of 'Da Fu Gui'by mode of 7.2℃and the plants grew and bloomed well.8 Compared with other cultivars,'Da Fu Gui' was recommended cultivar for potting,which showed dwarf and compact plant shape,large flowers quantity,high blooming rate,long population florescence and vigorous growth in greenhouse.
