Objective: Using the characteristic of traditional Chinese medicine with little toxicity and side effect, and little drug-resistance, the objective of this study was to develop a compound prescription of traditional Chinese medicine with antibacterial action, antivirus, and improving immune ability, and prepare a new, safe, and effective traditional Chinese medicine with no toxicity and side effect for animal production.Method: The compound prescription using phellodendron, scutellaria, radix isatidis, astragalus membranaceus, and glycyrrhiza was adopted according to the screening experiment. Stability test, antibacterial test, acute toxicity test, safety test on the target animal, and clinical therapeutic effects test were processed for the decision of clinical use of this compound prescription in our study.Result: The results showed that light intensity, temperature and humidity could affect the stability of compound traditional Chinese medicine, which meant its storage condition should be no light, airproof, and dry. Under these storage conditions, this product was stable in 12 months according to the variation of all kinds of tested data in more than 1 year. According to acute toxicity test, the LD50 of this compound traditional Chinese medicine was more than 12000 mg/kg, which meant it is safe to mice. The max tolerance death test showed the MTD of this compound traditional Chinese medicine was more than 40000 mg/kg body weight. The safe test showed this product was safe to poultry and pig. In vitro antibacterial test, this compound traditional Chinese medicine was significantly effective on E. coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and salmonella. The minimum inhibitory concentration of this compound traditional Chinese medicine on E.coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and salmonella was 0. 032g/ml, 0. 016g/ml and 0.125g/ml, respectively. Clinical test showed the cure rate was 90% by addition of 0. 5g/kg feed per day.Conclusion: In conclusion, the compound traditional Chinese medicine prepared in this study should preserve in dark and airproof. This product had good antibacterial action, safe, and high clinical cure rate.
