Long-time no fertilization or unbalanced fertilization had negative effect on the quality and yield of forages. Reasonable fertilization formulation of forages is needed to improve the stockbreeding of Hunan province. So, field plot experiments were carried out to study the effect of different N, P, and K fertilizer formulation on the quality and yield of two forages species (Pennisetum purpureum and Trifolium repens).1. The results showed that different N, P, and K fertilizer formulation had obvious influence on the quality and yield of Pennisetum purpureum. N decrease in the fertilization formulation (HJ1 treatment) decreased its yield, the content of crude protein and crude fat, but increased the content of crude fibre and ash. K increase in the fertilization formulation (HJ2 treatment) obviously increased the yield and the content of no-N soaking material, but decreased the quality of crude protein and crude fibre. Reasionabe N increase in the fertilization formunation (HJ3 treatment) improve its qulity and yield, but excess N increase in the fertilizaton formulation (HJ4 treatment) had no positive effect on the quality and yield of Pennisetum purpureum.2. The results showed that different fertilization formulation had obvious influence on the quality and yield of Trifolium repen. K increase in the fertilization formulation (DJ1 treatment) increased its yield, but decreaed the content of crude fibre, crude ash, crude fat and no-N soaking material. Balanced N, P, K ratio in the fertilization formulation (DJ2 treatment) increased its quality, but had no obvuous positive effect on its yield. N decrease in the fertilization formulation (DJ3 treatment) decreased its yield and quality, but P increasing in the fertilization formulation (DJ4 treatment) obvioously increased its yield and quality.3. Compared the effects on different fertilization formulation on the quality and yield of the two forage species in the experiment, reasonable P increase in fertilization formulation (N-P2O5-K2O = 4.0-11.0-5.0) had the best effect to improve the quality and yield of the grass forage species Trifolium repen, while reasonable N increase in the fertilization formulation (N-P2O5-K2O = 10.0-4.0-6.0) had the best advantage to improve the quality and yield of leguminous forages species Pennisetum purpureum.
