The Design And Realization Of Soil And Water Conservation Map Symbol Database

The map cartography is an important research aspect of geographic information system.The map symbol expresses the typical characteristic of real world according to the symbolic language visualization. The map symbol gives the map enormous influence, it decides whether the map contents fully express,decides whether the map is advantageous for reading and using, decides the effect of geography information transmission.Soil and water conservation is interdisciplinary integrated science and technology, involving water conservancy, agriculture, forestry, and other aspects. From the 1950s, soil and water conservation work achieved remarkable results, but its standardization, standardization work has been lagging behind. In particular soil and water conservation plans, the use of legend around, icons more confusion and lack of unified standards. It brings a lot of inconvenience to planning and design work.This paper take the Hubei Province conservation of water and soil network monitor system as a background, formulates " Water Resources and Hydropower Engineering Drawing standards of soil and water conservation " taken from the Ministry of Water Resources of the People's Republic of China as the standard,based on the ArcGIS platform.It has developed an entire set of complete soil and water conservation map symbol storehouse.And it is Successful application in practice. This paper does the work mainly as the following several aspects:1.On the basis of introducing the principle of design symbols storehouse. It detailed analysis of the characteristics of the soil and water conservation and the classification.2.It introduced the map symbol storehouse design method and the design flow in detail under the ArcGIS environment, elaborated the marker symbol, the line symbol and fill symbol symbolization way.3.To the question of superposition and breaks when change the width of the line symbols,the paper makes the improvement.To the phenomenon which the fill symbols packing could appear slit give the solution.The paper also use developments solution to design some complex symbols which can't design in ArcGIS.
