Vegetables grown under protective conditions have developed quickly and become an important part of farmer income in Zibo city. After China's entry into WTO, the voice for high-quality and safe vegetables has become louder. However, the farmers' recognition about green vegetable production is far from sufficient, and the application of biofertilizer and environment-friendly pesticides needs to be strengthened.To solve this problem, we firstly investigated the situation of pesticide application in Zibo city and found that, there exists a common practice of overusing pesticides, sometimes even highly-toxic ones. Many farmers can not choose the pesticide species properly according to the incidence of specific disease. We then investigated the temperature and moisture variation in greenhouse for two-years, and laid a solid foundation to manage the diseases with ecoligocal manners.We elucidated the major diseases infecting cucumber and tomato in protective production in Zibo and studied the relationship between their occurrence and environmental conditions. Two cucumber cultivars (Jinyou No. 1 and Jinyou No. 2) and two tomato cultivars (Baoguan No. 1 and Guocui) were selected and recommended to grow in Zibo according to their overall performance. Several environment-friendly pesticides and some biofertilizers are also recommended, because they can efficiently control the diseases or significantly increase the yield under protective conditions in Zibo city.We compiled the technical guides for tomato, squash and cucumber production in Zibo, which promote the production of green vegetable in Zibo greatly.
