Anatomical Observation On Digestive And Reproductive System Of Odontermes Formosanus Shiraki (Isoptera: Termitidae)

0.formosanus(Shiraki) is an important pest of agriculture and forestry crops and they can destroy reservoir and dam.In this thesis,the digestive system of O.formosanus was anatomized and observed,which contains different caste,different instar alate and larva. And the reproductive system of king,queen,alate and nymph were also anatomized and observed.The major results are summarized as following:1.Study on digestive system of O.formosanus1.1 Difference of digestive system in different casteThere exists difference on oesophagus among alate,worker and soldier.The crop and proventriculus are very strong and developed in worker,and can be used for storage, grinding and digestion of food.But the crop and proventriculu of soldier are very general comparing with worker.And the mid-gut of worker is also more developed than soldier.It is almost as twice as soldier.There was no significant difference between the worker and the alate.And from the diameter of paunch rectum we can see that the worker was stronger than soldier and alate.There was no significant difference in oesophagus length, crop and proventriculus among king,queen and alate.The mid-gut of queen was extended in the extreme,and the difference of length was significant comparing with alate and king. But there was no significant difference in mid-gut length between king and queen.The paunch and colon of queen are the most developed,and there was significant difference comparing with king and alate,but no significant difference between king and alate.1.2 The growth and development of nymph digestive systemIt growes obviously from 4^th instar to 5^th instar on most organ of digestive system.But there was not obvious growth from 5^th instar to 6^th instar.But the paunch and mid-gut grew evidently at each instar.The length are 0.87mm,0.99mm,1.18mm in different instar mid-gut and 0.68mm,0.92mm,1.22mm in different instar paunch. 1.3 Age division and digestive system of larvaThe larva of O.formosanus was divided into four instars according to head width and pronotum width.The different instar head widths are 0.440mm,0.628mm,0.765mm, 1.042mm.The different instar pronotum width are 0.289mm,0.418,0.534mm,0.619mm. And there was significant difference in head width and pronotum width between different ages.Similarly,there was significant difference in digestive system between different ages of larva.2 Study on reproductive system of O.formosanus2.1 Study on female and male alate abdominal terminalIt was very hard to recognize the female and male alate from external morphology. The abdominal terminal structure of male alate was simple.There were two tubers at bottom of the ninth abdominal terminal of male.But the abdominal terminal structure of female alate was complicated,and the two tubers were not clear or disappeared.This was the main external characteristic to recognize the male and female alate.2.2 Study on reproductive system of male and female alate,king and queenThe male reproductive system consists of testes,seminal duct and ejaculatory duct. And the female reproductive system consists of ovary,lateral oviduct,genital chamber, spermatheca,accessory gland.It was different between male alate and king's testes,and between female alate and queen's ovary,especially the shape of queen's ovary.The number of king's testicular tube and queen's ovariole were much more than alates. Although the shape of testes didn't change from alate to king,but the size changed a lot.2.3 Study on the reproductive system of female nymphThe ovary doesn't develop at 4^th instar alate.But it grows quickly from 5^th instar to 6^th instar.And the receptaculum seminis of every instar developed very fast.The ovary begins to grow at 5^th instar,and the average length is 0.36mm,the average width is 0.27mm.The ovary of 6^th instar is mature.The average length is 0.98mm,and the average width is 0.43mm.
