Improvement of fruit storability is a key object in tomato breeding. Inheritance improvement of tomato storability has acquired many achievements by means of mature mutation and gene engineering, but these ways are likely to make the quality worse. Good flavor quality used to be requested by our customers, accordingly, some breeds with good storability by above breeding methods can't been generalized well. Therefore, choosing breeding materials from common ripening tomato colony is useful to production and good flavor quality, meaningful to our tomato breeding. This dissertation made use of two common tomato materials('07g-31','07g-33') with good storability and quality as well as F1 hybrid'07g-32'('07g-33'×'07g-34'), these materials come from our lab. Our purpose is testifying physiology mechanism of these materials'storability by means of studying respiration and ethylene metabolizability. These results can offer some foundations for molecular research on tomato storability characteristics of regulation and controlling ulteriorly.⒈The materials'07g-31'and'07g-33'had good storability, and their shelf lives were long, close to or over 40d. The storability of material'07-34'was bad, its shelf live was less than one month. Compared with the female parent, the shelf life of F1 hybrid'07g-32'was over 35d, became longer distinctly.⒉During fruits ripening and softening, the materials'07g-31'and'07g-33'with good storability behaved that their climacteric peaks came late at pink stage; The climacteric peak of comparison material'07g-34'with bad storability came early at turning-color stage; The climacteric peak of F1 hybrid'07g-32'came at the same stage as'07g-34', but the climacteric peak was below the female parent.Ethylene production peaks happened at pink stage for all the trial materials, but the ethylene productions of'07g-31'and'07g-33'were less than the comparison material'07g-34'obviously. Ethylene production of F1 hybrid'07g-32'was between the parents. ACC contents increased rightly, the peak values happened at red stage. The materials'07g-31'and'07g-33'with good storability had less ACC contents than the comparison material'07g-34'; Activities of ACC synthase increased rightly to red stage, too. Similarly, the materials'07g-31'and'07g-33'with good storability had less activities than the comparison material'07g-34'; Activities of ACC oxidase increased before pink stage, and then declined, the materials'07g-31'and'07g-33'with good storability had less activities than comparison material'07g-34'; The exhibitions of F1 hybrid'07g-32'are between'07g-33'(male parent) and'07g-34'(female parent) in above aspects. The results indicated that storability of common tomatoes were in accord with respiration and ethylene metabolism during fruits ripening.⒊During fruits ripening and softening, the materials with good storability ('07g-31','07g-33') behaved that they intenerated more slowly, their firmness were biggest at mature green, and then declined, the least values were over 4 kg·cm-2; The firmness of comparison material'07g-34'was less, the least value was only 2.05 kg·cm-2; The firmness of F1 hybrid'07g-32'was bigger than female parent'07g-34'. The activities of-polygalacturonase for all the trial materials were almost zero, and they horsted after turning-color stage up to red stage, the activities of-polygalacturonase of'07g-31'and'07g-33'were less than comparison material'07g-34'.The activities of-polygalacturonase of F1 hybrid'07g-32'were between the parents. As to'07g-31'and'07g-33', their cell wall and middle lamella breaked up more slowly and the degree were lesser, the fibre structures of cell wall were still compact at pink stage, the large-scale transform phenomena from chloroplasts to chromoplasts happened at pink stage. The comparison material'07g-34'behavesd that the cell wall and middle lamella breaked up more quickly and the degree was stronger, the fibre structures of cell wall were relaxed distinctly at pink stage, the large-scale transform phenomena from chloroplasts to chromoplasts happened at turning-color stage. The exhibitions of F1 hybrid'07g-32'were between'07g-33'(male parent) and'07g-34'(female parent) in above aspects. The result indicated that storability of common tomatoes were in accord with softening rate and degree during fruit ripening.
