Zelkova schneideriana Hand.-Mazz belongs to Zelkova Spach genus of Ulmaceae family, it's unique specie in China. Zelkova schneideriana had been ranked as second focused protection wild plant of China. The paper aimed at preserving the fine characteristics given from Zelkova schneideriana Makino parents. All of the efforts was focused on studying cutting propagating technology and rooting mechanism of Zelkova schneideriana, the results as following:The results of cutting propagating experiment showed that the rootage percent was the highest when the soft wood cutting was soaked in ABA200mg·L-1 for 4 hours on the 22th June,. Meanwhile rooting percentage is as high as 73.5%, other rooting morphological indexes was better than different dealing. All examinations showed external hormone played an important role in rooting of plant significantly, and the effect of ABT rootage powder was the best; the surviving percent was the highest when the cuttings were soaked for 4 hours and the external hormone concentration was 200mg·L-1; the cutting propagating was better at the time of the 22th June approximately; the planting material and the cutting dimension had little of effection on surviving; and the bergeon materials should be cut from the lower part of the tree crown.The studying of rooting mechanism indicated that some indexes about the content of nutrient manifested a given rule with the development of rooting, such as soluble sugar, amylum, soluble albumen, total nitrogen, total phosphor and the rato of C/N etc. The content of soluble sugar and amylum had a downtrend at the forming period of callus and all the period of rooting, perhaps the soluble sugar and amylum provided energy for callus and rooting process; whereafter, the content of nutrient had an uptrend, then indicated no fluctuating. It can be explained as the energy requirement is reduction after rooting. The rato of C/N manifested the rooting ability in some extent.Both the fluctuating of the content of nutrient and the hormone in burgeon like IAA, ABA, GA3 and ZR etc promoted the rooting process. The fluctuating curve of the content of hormone in burgeon can indicate the process of the forming of callus and rooting. It is favor that there is the high ratio of IAA/ABA advantaged the rooting process.The experiment of the activity of IAAO and POD indicated that the activity of IAAO and POD correlated with rooting significantly. In the beginning of the rooting, the activity of IAAO and POD rised, maybe the overfull IAA in burgeon was oxidated, the inducement of root anlage was impulsed. Later, as the completing of rooting, the activity of IAAO and POD manifested little fluctuating.If the rooting environment was suitable, the fluctuating of all nutrient and hormone in burgeon influenced the whole process of rooting, as well as the proper cutting propagating technology may promote the rooting surviving percent significantly.
