Height character is one of the most important agronomic traits of rice.The dwarf varieties with proper plant height have a greater harvest and higher lodging resistance.It is the bright road of rice breeding to study about dwarf mutant.On the other hand,dwarf mutants in rice are crucial for elucidating regulating mechanisms for plant growth and development.Although more than 70 dwarf mutants have been reported in rice recently,but only a few genes which result in dwarf have been isolated and little was know about how the dwarf genes regulate the plant's growth and development.Therefore,isolating new dwarf mutant and understanding its regulating mechanism is very important.In my study,a semi-dwarf mutant with short leaves and a dwarf mutant with broad leaves and small seeds were found and investigated.The semi-dwarf mutant was named sd-sl and the dwarf mutant was named d-ss.The main results are summarized as bellow:1.The response to gibberellic acid treatment of sd-sl:The semi-dwarf mutant was treated with gibberellin acid(GA3) in the seeding stage,and it was sensitive to GA3 treating.The thicker the concentration of GA3 was, the higher the degree of elongation the mutant gained.2.Genetic analysis for sd-sl and d-ss:Genetic analysis for sd-sl mutant revealed that it was controlled by one main recessive gene. So was d-ss.3.Map of sd-sl and d-ss:To map sd-sl locus, a F2 population was constructed from the cross between sd-sl (japonica) and guangluai(indica). BSA was used.And the sd-sl locus was mapped between the two InDel markers, XL6-6 and XL6-1, in rice chromosome 6. The region was delimited to about 100 kb. The F2 population was constructed from a cross between d-ss(japonica) and longtepu(indica) for screening molecular marker linked with the dwarf gene. It showed that the d-ss located in rice chromosome 5,between the two InDel markers, OS506 and XL5-1 with genetic distance of 9.3 cM.
