The effects of N-Acetyl-DL-Methionine supplementation were studied on digestion and metabolism in sheep and milk performance in lactating cows.Four male China merino (Xinjiang type) sheep of 40 kg live weight were used to investigate effects of supplementation N-Acetyl-DL-Methionine on digestion and metabolism of sheep in two periods. Sheep were supplied with 2.35g methionine per day in the first period and with 3.06g N-Acetyl-DL-Methionine per day in the second period. The results indicated that digestibility of cellulose in control and treatment were 50.64±6.46% and 61.98±5.44%(P<0.05), the digestibility of hemicellulose were 48.92±1.69% and 54.96±3.95%(P<0.05), the apparent digestibility of calcium were 15.12±1.07% and 18.27±2.04%(P<0.05). It was conclude that the digestibility of cellulose and hemicellulose were improved by supplementation with N-Acetyl-DL-Methionine.The amount and rate of retention of calcium were also improved 24.7% and 16.8% by the supplementation. Supplementing N-Acetyl-DL-Methionine did not affect the digestibility of dry matter and organic matter and the amount and rate of retention of nitrogen.Four male China merino (Xinjiang type) sheep, with 40 kg of average live weight, fitted with permanent fistula in the duodenum were used to investigate effects of supplementation N-Acetyl-DL-Methionine on rumen digestion and metabolism of sheep in two periods. Sheep were supplied with 2.35g methionine per day in the first period and with 3.06g N-Acetyl-DL-Methionine per day in the second period. The results indicated that apparent disappearance of cellulose, hemicellulose from forestomach were significantly increased 20.5% and 22.9% (P<0.05), the apparent digestabilityof cellulose, hemicellulose from forestomach were significantly increased 17.5% and 20.7% (P<0.05). Rumen apparent digestibility and disappearance of dry matter and organic matter were not affected by supplementing N-Acetyl-DL-Methionine. Supplementing N-Acetyl-DL-Methionine did not affect microbial protein synthesis and the crude protein flowed to duodenal. Twenty-four healthy Chinese-Holstein cows were selected and divided three groups(n=8 each group) randomly according to similar body weight, milk yield, calving time and number. There were three groups in whole trail to investigate effects of supplemental N-Acetyl-DL-Methionine on performance of lactating cows. Every lactating cow were supplied with 21g methionine and 23g N-Acetyl-DL-Methionine per day for treatment. The control group supplied with non-amino acid . The results indicated that milk yield, milk fat,and milk protein were not affected by supplementing N-Acetyl-DL-Methionine.
