Analysis On Efficiency Of Wheat Variety Structure In Henan

Henan wheat production play a vital role of the development of wheat economy, improvement of people's living condition, national foodstuff security and international foodstuff trade, which has advantages in area, total yield and unit yield. The key factor influencing high-quality wheat production is varieties breeding and its' structure. At present, the main object of variety breeding is high yield, high quality and adaptability, and the developing trend of variety structure is multipolar with some dominating varieties for their characteristics of high yield, high quality, multi-resistance and extensive adaptability.This paper analyzes wheat quality structure, variety structure, contribution of them to total yield, and the efficiency of variety structure in Henan province. To achieve a profound study of wheat variety structure, 122 samples in 10 regions have been chosen to estimate the efficiency of wheat variety structure with the data envelopment analysis. The five inputs are seeds, fertilizer, medicine, machine and labor, and the output is unit yield. The software available is Frontier 2.1.In conclusion, the result indicates that the average technical efficiency of high-quality wheat (high protein) production is as good as that of the normal one(middle protein), which means the efficiency depends on not only the ratio of the input and the output, but also the structure of variety. In other words, the technical efficiency has the potential to increase further by optimizing the variety structure on the constrain of constant total input even if the efficiency has been high enough. For the sake of estimating the efficiency of wheat structure, the technical and scale efficiency of one variety in different regions and of different variety in one region is estimated specifically. According the result, the comparison among variety structure is available and main reasons have been found which causes the efficiency lost in some form of structure, as well as more specific suggestions are available to improve the efficiency of wheat production and wheat variety structure in henan province.
