Urbanization brought about serious ecological problems. Many efforts had done to solve these problems, which have not only enriched theory and methods of city construction but further assured the significance of natural elements in a city. As the need of natural environment increasing, green space as a feeling of nature become more and more important. The study of green space should not restrict in the composition of plants, but more emphasis on the structure and layout of green space system. Its main bases and purposes is, through optimizing the composition, spatial organization and underlying characteristics of batch, to protect biodiversity, realize management of ecosystem and sustainability of landscape, and achieve maximum ecological, social and economic effect of green space system. In sum, sustainable development of city zone should base on landscape optimizing and quality. In the basis of theory and method of landscape ecology, this study utilizes remote sensing and GIS technique to analyze green space landscape pattern of Lanzhou city. Moreover,, some constructive opinions were presented through analyzing landscape pattern status quo. Assessment of the ecological service of green space in Lanzhou city was done according to monetary form, which made it intuitionistic for the public to understand the value of green space. This, in turn, help behaving public' s desire and make use of finance efficiently. Based on the condition status in quo, developed diverse city landscape, realized the effect of green space in city ecosystem and provided paradigm for other cities. The results show that: (1) Green space occupies an area of 1221. 28hm2, with coverage of 27. 45% and 10007 patches in Lanzhou city. The number of macro green spaces is smaller than micro ones, while the area of the former ones is bigger than the later ones. General speaking, the number of macro green spaces are small and distributed uneven, although micro green spaces compensate macro ones, their area is small, which results in fragmentation of green space in the study area. (2) The average area of Other Green space and Green buffer are 658. 21hm2 and 42. 21 hm~2, respectively. The number of Attached Green space is the biggest (6870), the smallest, is Public Park, with a number of 74. Therefore, Green buffer and Public Park should be the focus of development in the future in Lanzhou city. (3) The fragmentation is serious and landscape connectivity is low in the study area, which imposes negative effects on the construction of green space network, the movement of species and ecological service of green space. (4) Ecological service value of green space is over 430 000 000 Yuan, which is higher than the maintenance costs (about 40 000 000 Yuan). For the reason of deficit of complete assessment system and basic data, its value can not be calculated sufficiently. So, further recognition and assessment of the value of green space should be our task in the future.Lanzhou city, located in the middle of two mountains, is a stripe like shape. Land resource is limited, which increases the difficulty of land layout. Virescence has quite a few deficits in Lanzhou city. Green space in the city is the place where residents live and recreate, scientific and sound layout will contribute to sustainable development of the city. Therefore, it is of theoretical and practical important to study and make full use of city green space.
