The experiments were carried out on the woodland station of An Hui FeiDong Dianbu town in 2005 -2006. The zhongsi237,Domgmu-70 rye, lolium multiflorum, festuca arundinacea var.glaucesens, cocksfoot, high rye, white clover, chiccory and alfalfa variety of experimented grass in Poplar woodland. The grass was grown in the age of five years for the field between poplars for intercropping trial. The effect of permanent grasses cover on pasture growth and development, woodlands microclimate, soil nutrients, moisture content, forage production and physical characteristics were studied in "Poplar - grass" complex ecosystem. The main conclusions are as follows :1. The effect of intercropping on the growth of forageThe intercropping with pastures in Poplar woodland was feasible. A good harvest was obtained from the intercropping with some of pastures, and that were normal growth and development in Poplar woodland. Domgmu-70 rye and the zhongsi 237 are 245 and 240 day, The zhongsi237 and Domgmu-70 rye are shorter the bearing which there is 245d and 240d from sowing seeds to the mature. The chiccory is 305d that campare with zhongsi237, Domgmu-70 rye, lolium multiflorum, festuca arundinacea var.glaucesens, cocksfoot, high rye, white clover and alfalfa the separately differs 57,62,53,39, 45,41,24 and 13d.There are differences that LWR(leaf weight ration) of forage in the flowering shoots, and zhongsi237, Domgmu-70 rye are more than other pastures, Alfalfa and white clover can provide adequate nutrients while LWR(leaf weight ration) are small than other grass.The intercropping with pastures in Poplar woodland was stabile. Intercropping system appeared the seven weeds whereas grass weeds the dominant species. Therefore the forage is constructing to the weed controlling in plants the stage so that the growth of high quality forage.2.The effect of intercropping on photosynthetic rate and ecologicalThe intercropping with pastures in Poplar woodland could moderate and minimize the daily fluctuation of temperature and adjust relative humidity. The photosynthesis radiation, the evaporating rate and net photosynthetic rate of daily variation of pasture to be consistent, but in the different growth season achieved the peak value the time has the difference. It decreased the soil temperature of different depth in warm season.3. The effect of intercropping on soilAfter planting grasses, soil physical characteristics were improved, soil bulk density decreased and soil porosity increased by percent 5.2. While the soil moisture content of the intercropping system was enhance obviously.The contents of organic matter, total N, alkaline hydrolysis N, available P and available K were raised. Alfalfa and white clover increased the total N, alkaline hydrolysis N, available P and available K in soil evidently by percent 0.077,5.54,2.759 and 1.23 compared with the other treatments. However, the soil nutrients were increased significantly with white clover and alfalfa.4. The effect of intercropping on yieldIt is very important that intercropping adjust the agricultural structure, According to the effectiveness of the different types of grass so that the yield difference in intercropping. But the fresh weight of Domgmu-70 rye were 30622.95 that it is most yield compared with the other treatments,The zhongsi237,Domgmu-70 rye are separately yield 30412.2 and 23554.2.5. The effect of intercropping on poplarThe grass grow in the intercropping during the first year, the poplar diameter weren't obvious change compared with the other treatments.
