Mudsnail (Cipangopaludina cahayensis) was studied through the measurement and analysis of its morphological characteristics, including shell-length, shell-width, the length of shell's mouth, the width of shell's mouth and body weight in this paper. The survival and surviving experiments on mudsnail under different pH were conducted. The experiments on propagation, growth and disease-control of mudsnail in rice field were conducted. The purpose of this study is to provide basic information and scientific foundation for the ecological cultivation of mudsnail. The main results are as follows:1. The relationship between the shell height (y) and the shell width (x) is linear and the linear regression equation is y = -1.008 + 0.7347 x (r2=0.9048). The relationship between the shells height of the mouth (y) and the shell height (x) is linear and the linear regression equation is y = -0.5099 + 0.5581 x (r2=0.9396). The relationship between the shell width of the mouth (y) and the shell height of the mouth (x) is linear and the linear regression equation is y = -0.9220 + 0.9280 x (r2=0.9336). The relationship between weigh (y) and the height (x) is exponential and the regression equation is y = 0.000992 x2.5575 (r2=0.9175).2. The experiments on survival and growth of mudsnail in different pH conditions indicated that mudsnail grew normally in the condition of pH from 5.5 to 7.5. The fittest pH for mudsnail's growth was from 6.0 to 7.0. The mudsnail's growth rate and its survival rate would decline when the value of pH raised or declined to the fittest pH.3. The results of ecological cultivation showed that the cultivation of mudsnail in rice field was cost-effective with a simple technique and less investment. It was not only to stabilize the yield of rice, but also to optimize the agricultural farming structures. It was a high-yield and high-effect ecological farming model combined plant culture with animal farming in rice field.
