TEMINAL FLOWER 2 (TFL2) is a floral related gene. In Arabidopsis, TFL2 expressed mainly in meristem and vascular, tfl2 mutant shows early flowering and terminal flower. LHPl, the products of TFL2, is a homologue of heterochromatin protein 1 (HP1) predominantly located at heterochromatin in Drosphila, mammals and fission yeast. HP1 was involved in heterochromatin organization, gene silencing and regulation of gene transcription. LHP1 is mainly localized at euchromatin and plays the same role as its counterpart in Drosphila, mammals and fission yeast.Rice is a short-day (SD) monocot, whereas cucumber is a mid-day (MD) dicotyledon. In this paper, we comparatively studied the expression pattern of TFL2 in rice and cucumber respectively through RNA in situ hybridization so as to unveil the function of TFL2 in plant development. The results show that:[1] In rice, TFL2 was expressed in mitotic cells, such as in lateral root, lateral bud, panicle primordium, spikelets primordium, tapetum, pollen, ovule primordium. Intriguingly, TFL2 did not express in shoot meristem. Thus, we can conclude that TFL2 doesn't effect on floral differentiation. However, TFL2 expressed in tiller bud,...
