The experiment was conducted with the object of studying on the pathogenesis of FLS and the efficacy of "QinGanTai" against FLS in broilers. 300 one-day old 3-Huang broilers were randomly divided into three groups: control group(A), the high-caloricity(16.7MJ/kg)/high-protein ( 27.60% ) group(B) and the high-caloricity (16.7MJ/kg)/low-protein (16.00%) group(C). Groups A,B, C had 60, 120, 120 chicken respectively. Signs appeared in group C at 5th week, but there was no sighs in group B till 8th week. The group C showed significantly symptom, which included standing instability, though, and abdomen drooped softly, and which included lipoidosis in abdominal cavity, liver swelled with yellow and bleeding spots accasionally in liver. Pathologically, hepatocellular fatty degeneration and swelling appeared in group C. Hematologically, the liver total superoxide dismutase(T-SOD), proliferous index(PI) and S-phase fraction(SPF) were decreased (P<0.01 or P<0.05 ) compared with group A. The apoptosis of hepatocytes, the serum alanine aminotransferase(ALT), asparate aminotransferase(AST), nonesterified fatty acid(NEFA), low density lipoprotein -cholesterol(LDL-C), the liver malondialdehyde (MDA) and reactive oxygen species(ROS) were markly increased (P<0.01 or P<0.05) compared with group A. However, there was not obviously changes in the serum uric acid content. At the same time, the pathological injury and other findings were similar to group C at 8th week. The above mentioned results showed that the high-caloricity(16.7MJ/kg) /low-protein (16.00%) diets resulted in FLS. After 5th week, group C was randomly divided into four groups(C1~C4) for further study, and group C1 was the model group, group C2 and group C3 diets mixed "QinGanTai"(the dose is 0.3g/broiler · day and 0.4g/broiler· day respectively) with the high-caloricity/low-protein diet, and group C4 diet mixed Cholini Chloridum(the dose is 0.1g/kg diet) with the high-caloricity/low-protein diet. Treatment for 14d, the symptom and pathologically injury of groups C2, C3, C4 were reduced or disappeared. The liver T-SOD, PI, SPF were decreased more slowly (P<0.01 or P<0.05) or increased compared with group C1. The hepatocyte apoptosis index, the serum ALT, AST, NEFA, LDL-C, the liver MDA and ROS were increased more slowly or decreased (P<0.01 or P<0.05). The high dose of "QinGanTai" had more effects on FLS when compared with the low dose of "QinGanTai", and "QinGanTai" was more effective than Cholini Chloridum. It was concluded that "QinGanTai" prevented FLS by purgeing ROS, inhibiting LPO, resisting oxidation, decreasing fatty, protecting liver and inhibiting hepatocellalar apoptotic and speeding hepatocellular regeneration.
