In order to promote the seed production of chicory and reduce the dependence on imported chicory seed, and find an effective technology to produce high-quality and productive chicory seed, a set of effective critical producing techniques were explored at the Forage Research Center of Yangzhou University, by treatment of cutting and fertilizing on seed yield, yield components and seed quality in OG02 big-leaf-type of chicory. The results showed:(1) Chicory was seeded on Sep 4th, 2004, and bolted in early April, and began to bloom in the middle of May, when the chicory began to bloom from 5 to 6 o'clock in the morning, prospered from 7 to 9 o'clock, and closed at 2 or 3 o'clock in the afternoon. The blooming stage lasted until late September and 20 days later, seeds entered into maturation stage.(2) Treatments affected agricultural performance of chicory in the following aspects: The color of the matured chicory seed was puce. Cutting treatment could significantly increase the number and height of fertile tillers, the number of inflorescences and seeds in each inflorescence (F>0.01), but significantly reduce the weight of seeds (F>0.01). Fertilizing treatment could significantly increase the height of fertile tillers, the number of inflorescences, and the weight of seeds (F>0.01), but significantly reduce the water content of seeds (F>0.01). Among all the fertilizer, NPK fertilizer had the best effects, NP fertilizer ranked second, NK and N fertilizer ranked last.(3) Treatments affected seed yield of chicory in the following aspects: Cutting...
