| Yuhuan pummelo is a famous local variety in China and one of the best quality varieties in Zhejiang province. It is welcomed highly by consumers for being seedless, bright pulp, sweet and acidic flavor and orange colorness. Since 1985, it has won gold prize for nine times continually.However, a large number of Yuhuan pummelo split had led to the serious loss for the farmers. In the ordinary years, the rate of split fruits is above 50%, and in some years the rate is up to 70%-90%. The economical loss can reach 100 milion yuans each year if the rate is only 50%. In order to solve the problem, some measures were adopted. First, Local farmers picked up fruits ahead of maturation;Second, sacked the pummelo by nylon film;Third, pollinated the pummelo with sour orange pollens. These measures decreased the proportion of fruits split but caused problems such as low quality, the fruit had got seeds and the flavor became sour from sweet and acidic. Sacking by nylon film had some effect on the split fruits, but some problems such as greenhouse effect,sun burned, rot and short storage were appeared.The research used heterotetraploid HR(Hamlin+Rough lemon) .. SR(Sour orange+ Rough lemon) KV(Key lime+Valencia) ZJ (Sweet orange+Lemon) as female parents and cossed with Yuhuan pummelo in order to decrease the rate of the fruit split, to keep the native characters of the fruit and to obtain the triploid plants by the embryo rescue technique.The results are as follows:1. The rate of splitted fruits decreased from 50% to 20% after pollination with tetraploid somatic hybrids' pollens.2. The triploid plants were obtained by embryo rescaing and the reached 15%.3. The availability and prospect of hybrid for decreasing the rate of the splitted fruits were known exactly.4.
