14 multifoliate alfalfa varieties were chosed to cultivate with stem cutting. The experiment was to study on growth speed, regrowth speed, stem/leaf ratio, fresh/dry ratio, the plant multifoliate expression on leaf weight, the plant multifoliate expression on leaf amount and yield of fourteen cutting varieties. The results were as follows:1. All plants from multifoliate branch, multifoliate burl and trifoliate burl after cutting expressed multifoliate trait, but there were no remarkable differences in the the percent of multifoliate plant and percent of the plant multifoliate expression on leaf amount. The percent of multifoliate plant of cutting multifoliate alfalfa was bigger than corresponding parent.2. The percent of the plant multifoliate expression on leaf amount was biggest in branching period and was lowest in flowering period. Different varieties had remarkable difference in the percent of the plant multifoliate expression on leaf amount and the plant multifoliate expression on leaf weight. The percent of the plant multifoliate expression on leaf amount of Grandeur was higher than the others. Algonguin, CW200 took second place and Emperor was the lowest. So was the Grandeur on the percent of multifoliate plant .WL-323 took second place and Emperor was the lowest.3. The average growing speed of Phabulous and Algonguin was the fastest of all, and WL-252HQ and WL-232HQ was the lowest of all. The re-growing speed of Emperor, Algonguin, Phabulous, WL-323 and Grandeur was the faster than the others, but WL-252HQ and WL-232HQ was the lowest.4. Different varieties had remarkable difference in stem/leaf and fresh/ dry ratio. The fresh/ fry ratio of CW200 was the highest. There were no different of WL-252HQ, WL-323, Grandeur, Phabulous, Algonguin and Emperor. WL-232HQ was the lowest of all. The stem/leaf ratio of Grandeur was the lowest and there had no remarkable difference in WL-252HQ, WL-323, CW200, Algonguin and Phabulous. WL-232HQ was the highest.5. The yield of nine varieties had no remarkable difference in the first and the second cuttings .The yield of Grandeur was the highest and WL-232HQ was the lowest.6. From all of the nine varieties to see, the comprehensive capability of Grandeur was the highest, Algonguin and Phabulous took second place and WL-232HQ was the lowest.
