This dissertation was designed to study the effect of dietary supplementation of lovastatin on cholesterol concentration and reproduction performance of the New Yangzhou laying hens. The layers were randomly divided into four groups. The first group was fed on the basal diet. The second, the third and the forth group were given 0.015%, 0.03% and 0.06% additive lovastatin based on the basal diet, respectively. The period of this experiment was 35 days. The main results were showed as following:1. The addition of dietary lovastatin decreased the levels of plasma total cholesterol, there was a significant difference between the control group and other trail groups (P﹤0.05), and the highest decreasing plasma cholesterol content by 13.71%.2. The level of additive lovastatin had significant effect on reducing egg yolk cholesterol concentration (mg cholesterol/egg)(P﹤0.01). A significant reduction was found in the egg yolk cholesterol concentration (mg cholesterol/g yolk) with the addictive of dietary 0.015% lovastatin (8.59%, P﹤0.01), 0.03% lovastatin (16.43%, P﹤0.01), and 0.06% lovastatin (17.12%) respectively. And dietary supplementation of lovastatin at 0.015% , 0.03%, 0.06% also significantly decreased the egg cholesterol content by 13.49% , 13.90 %, 19.44 % respectively (P﹤0.05).3. The effect of lovastatin reducing cholesterol depended on the time, plasma cholesterol concentration had no significant change in the second week, but it changed...
