The pot-culture experiments was carried out on the effects of differentlight intensity on growth, development and quality of flue-cured tobacco inLiangshan tobacco research institute during 2004 and 2005. The results indicated that:1 Effects of Light intensity on Quality of Tobacco seedlings in the Floating system.Light can regulate plants' growth, development and morphogenesis and effectsthe accumulation of dry matter and chemical components. The paper analyzed theeffects of light intensity on agoronomic character, water status, physiology, biomassand chemical content of tobacco seedlings. It was shown that Light intensity hadsignificant effects on the growth of tobacco seedlings. under the lower light conditions, seedlings height increased, stem circumference, leaf thickness , the specific leafweight ,the ratio of dry weight to fresh weight and the accumulation of matterdecreased ; Root systems of tobacco seedlings under low light conditions were notdeveloped well, shading decreased seedlings' root shoot ratio and root vitality. Lightintensity affected plants' water content, shading increased the free water content anddecreased bound water content in the leaf of tobacco seedlings . Chlorophyll contentof tobacco seedlings were increased with decreasing light intensity, while Chla/Chlbwas decreased NR activity of tobacco seedlings leaves presented a graduallyincreasing trend ,INV activity in leaves presented a gradually decreasing trend whilelight became lower; Shading increased the content of total nitrogen, protein anddecreased the content of Soluble sugar and nicoting. Low light intensity couldweaken the quality of tobacco seedlings .2 Effect of Light intensity on the Growth, Physiology character and Quality of Tobacco. The study was carried out on the effect of weak light treatment on the growth, physiology character and quality of tobacco in 2004 and 2005. The results indicated that: In the weak light conditions, Tobacco growth and development was decreased, Growth period increased; Nitrate reductase activity improved,Invertase activity decreased and Peroxidase activities decreased . Weak light treatment decreased leaf weight ,thickness, weight per unit leaf area, leaf density and sugar content. however...
