Except for a few are used as animal feed, most are used as firewood, even some of them are stacked in the courtyard until rotted or burnt off in the fields. The remnant straw does not only occupy much land, influence the environment in the rural areas, but also become the hidden fire trouble. Straw burning has already become an urgent issue to be settled social problem because it can cause resource-wasting, environment pollution, and do harmful for people's health and safety.The waste of the straw resources, essentially, is the waste of arable land, the water, and input for agriculture. Increasing the multipurpose use of agriculture offal, developing new technique, efficient use of resources, prohibiting burning the straw, on one hand, can change waste into valuable, improve the efficiency to use resource, improving the income of farmers, and on the other hand, it can protect the environment, protect people's health, keep the traffic and civil aviation flowing. So it's a significant step to build a resource-saving environment-friendly society.Observations of the current state of research and development, our country have reached many great results about the development and use of maize straw. At the present stage, there are four main applications: 1) straw returning; 2) silage; 3) alternative energy sources; 4) industrial raw material.
