This paper studies on measuring principle of the two-pin soil moisture sensor base on standing wave-rate and soil compaction sensor. On this basis, further studies are done on metal double-loop soil moisture sensor base on standing wave-rate and soil compaction sensor based on cone index measurement principle.In order to realize the field measuring requirements, this paper designed a compound device which can simultaneously measure soil moisture and compaction. This instrument can quickly measure the volumetric soil water content and soil compaction. The instrument calibrations and performance analysis were done, and this compound sensor was compared with other related devices. In addition, in order to meet the requirements of intelligence, digitization and portability, the measuring instrument was designed for handheld, and a data collector, which joined microcontroller, analog to digital conversion chip, keyboard and display equipment, was designed. The data collector can realize data storage, display, data communication and fast charging and other functions, which makes the instrument function better, and operations are more convenient.
