Land surface temperature (LST) is playing an important role in the ground - atmosphere interaction process and is the key parameter in the global change research. Its change status is also a kind of very important criterion to measure environmental quality and the social-economic development policy in the sustainable development and in the global change quality synthetic evaluation model study. With the acceleration of rural industrialization, the LST distribution in rural areas will also be significantly affected. However, the studies of LST mostly focus on urban areas especially in large urban areas. As for the countryside they pay little attention.Using remote sensing (RS) technology to retrieve LST gradually becomes an important method to obtain a wide range of continuous LST because of its time synchronization as well as its convenience and quickness which can not be surpassed by traditional methods.This research taks RS as the main method, Gongyi City as the research area,Landsat TM images of 1988 and Terra/ASTER images of 2006 as the main data sources, Combined with other geographical data in the study area and comprehensive use of geo-spacial information technology researches have been done on the relationship of the surface temperature in rural areas and the development of rural industries. From the research the following main conclusions are drown:(1) Reasonable use of different remote sensing data can make research work more accurate and faster to carry out. the integrated using of 3 sub-systems data of the ASTER data as well as MODIS data and the ASTER spectral database data in the LST retrieval process has obtained a more satisfied result.For Landsat TM data,using single-window algorithm to retrieve LST,the result is satisfied,too.(2) Analysis of the results on the LST retrieval indicates that with the development of rural areas, the LST has a relative increase and ultra-high temperature zone and the distribution of industrial parks are in good agreement.(3) Changes in land cover types will change the spatial distribution of LST. The development of rural areas makes the construction sites increase significantly and as a result raises the surface temperature. (4) In the same underlying surface conditions, the industrial production doesn't make remarkable influence to the LST in a lower development stage while in a higher stage it has a significant impact on the surface tempreture which shows a trend towards rising with the increase of industrial output.This research shows that industrialization of rural areas has a profound influence to the LST as well as the environment.As the RS data resources increase and the resolutions of RS data improve,regional LST retrievals can get reliable results;there are some feasibilities in using geo-spacial information to study rural economy,and it can make study convenient and reach required precision.
